Wildlife Photography through the Lockdowns

Jay Knight January 25, 2025

This blog is really an account of what wildlife I saw during the lockdowns and through the seasons on a local level. It’s an older blog that I didn’t manage to post at the time but have since realised it has some decent images. Most of the stuff I post about is usually quite exotic and from far flung places so it’s about time I photographed and wrote about what I have on my doorstep around Manchester, UK.

The Outer Hebrides

Jay Knight June 1, 2024

My last blog post talked about all the sightings we had on a 1 day tour with Steve Duffield, the local wildlife guide for the Outer Hebrides. This post will talk about everything else I saw and did, as I was on the islands for a full week.

Iberian Lynx - A truly remarkable sighting in Doñana, Spain.

Jay Knight January 21, 2021

Last January I went on a mission to Doñana National Park in Spain with a group of 7 friends. The main aim of the trip was to see the Iberian Lynx, as well as enjoy the wintering birds of the legendary Coto Doñana National Park

Costa Rica 2019 - Tortuguero

Jay Knight February 18, 2020

Day 10 and we were up with the sparrows, armed with a boxed breakfast, ready for the long journey over to the Caribbean coast, with Tortuguero the destination. It’s always interesting seeing how the country changes from one coast to the next, whilst driving up and over the central spine of mountains. In Costa Rica, all the different altitudes and slopes creates lots of different habitats and micro-climates, meaning there are different pockets of wildlife to be seen, with each area bringing their own speciality species, adding to the biodiversity.

Costa Rica 2019 - The Highlands

Jay Knight February 4, 2020

Continuing with my photo diary of our journey through Costa Rica, it was now day 8 and the next stop was the highlands of Costa Rica, and the beautiful valley of San Gerardo de Dota, with the main aim of seeing the Reslendent Quetzal, a very spectacular Trogon found in the could forests. On route we had 2 stops, one for this absolute beauty of a Northern Tamandua, which Jessy expertly spotted near the side of the road.

Turkey: Birding around Side Ancient Ruins, Antalya

Jay Knight April 28, 2019

If you have read my previous few blogs, I have been birding in Turkey recently, and we were staying around Side, near Manavgat in Antalya. I read a few trip reports online that were raving about ‘Side ancient ruins’, which is quite a large expanse of Roman ruins throughout the historic town centre of Side.

Late Autumn in Norfolk, England

Jay Knight October 26, 2018

Norfolk is without doubt one of my favourite places for wildlife in the UK. I particularly enjoy it in the winter where you can see huge flocks of waders over The Wash at places like Snettisham, Frampton Marshes and Titchwell.
